It’s time to go back to school, and we can tell the kids are certainly not impressed. Why not show them that just because the yellow buses are back on the road, the fun hasn’t driven away. Our Wisconsin weekend rentals will help bring adventure back to their (and your) weeks.

The Midwest is full of fun, quirky, and relaxing sites to see and places to visit. Many of these are the perfect solution for the back to school blues. A weekend away in the Midwest will keep your kids happy and carefree until the Christmas spirit hits.

Never enough Lego

One of the hottest spots for kids in the Midwest is the Legoland Discovery Center in Schaumburg, Ill. It’s every kids’ dream to be surrounded by lifesized Lego, including interactive pieces and a cityscape of Chicago. There is a train ride to take with the kids in which they can “shoot” bad guys with laser guns, plenty of chances to build their own models, and floors of models built by the pros.

Fortunately, Schaumburg is full of other activities and shopping opportunities, in case you want to do a little bit of exploring on your own. If you’ll be filling up your Wisconsin weekend rentals with souvenirs and Lego sets, why not get a few gifts for yourself?

If you don’t want to spend the full weekend in Schaumburg, why not spend a few days in Chicago? There are myriad activities that both adults and children alike will enjoy, including zoos, green spaces, sight seeing, museums, and the Cruise the Chicago River Seadog Cruise at Navy Pier. You’ll also want to check out Oz Park – a gorgeous locale dotted with statues from the Wizard of Oz.

Hiking in Horicon Marsh

Horicon Marsh is a great place for a day trip to reconnect to the outdoors, and let your children release some pent up energy after a week in school. Horicon Marsh is the product of Wisconsin Glacier, and was once home to the wooly mammoth (which has its own life-sized models around the marsh!). Currently, though the mammoth exists only in statue-form, the marsh is home to many other animals including cranes, frogs, snakes, turtles, blue herons, and other critters you may find wandering through. You may want to pack a camera in your Wisconsin weekend rentals!

We also recommend taking a peek at the Education and Visitors Center, and the Explorium downstairs. Both offer plenty of activities for kids and learning opportunities that describe the geological and geographical history of the region. More so, your kids are bound to enjoy smelling a “wooly mammoth”, a mock DNR airboat ride, and the children’s nooks. It’s certainly worth the small entry fee.

Explore the Wisconsin Dells

The Wisconsin Dells offer much more entertainment than you may have previously realized. If you haven’t before, it’s time to take your Wisconsin weekend rentals out to explore and discover all that the Wisconsin Dells has to offer.

A Wisconsin River tour is one of the more popular activities along the Dells, including the option of a dinner cruise or a Ghost Boat tour in the canyon. These tours will offer you a glimpse of the sandstone cliffs, the scenery surrounding the river, and will guide you through the history of the region.

There are plenty of water activities to keep you and the kids occupied, as well. With lake side attractions, and numerous water resorts that offer splash pads, pools, and waterparks, your kids will think they’re in paradise. Make sure to make this trip before it gets too cold! Another great water attraction is the Tommy Bartlett ski show on Lake Delton, which has performances of stunts, water skiing, thrill activities, and acrobatics galore!

Ever dreamed of riding a duck? It may sound odd, but at Wisconsin Dells you can! Though perhaps not in the way you think. The Wisconsin Ducks brought troops and supplies across the Dell Creek and Lake Delton throughout World War II. On a Duck, you’ll get to journey through water and across the Sand Bar. But please don’t try this in your Wisconsin weekend rentals!
