Who doesn’t love fall? The colors, smells of fresh apples and fallen leaves, the crisp chill creeping up in the air – it’s enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine. Autumn is a lovely time of year to explore nature without enduring blasting cold or unbearable heat. There’s something awe-inspiring about taking a trail once the leaves have started to change. But if you’re just visiting Wisconsin, you may not know where to go. Mayfair can help you out. With your Milwaukee car rentals, your exploration limits are boundless. Pack up your Milwaukee car rentals with a lunch, a thermos of cider, and a few warm sweaters and head off to discover the beautiful autumnal sites that Wisconsin has to offer.
Timm’s Hill in Ogema
Timm’s Hill is a perfect place to start your hiking exploration of Wisconsin. This hill takes the cake for the highest geographical point in the entire state, offering hikers incredible views of the surrounding land as far as 30 miles out. Climb this hill to the top, and you’ll be standing 1,951.5 feet above sea level. Travel a little further to the top of the observation tower to get a view over the blanket of trees.
The hill is framed on two sides with lakes. To the south is Placid Bass Lake and High Point Village Resort. Turn north and you’ll get a view of Timm’s Lake cozied beneath the trees.
Interstate Park along the Croix National Scenic Riverway
Just outside of St. Croix Falls you’ll find the Croix National Scenic Riverway winding its way through the Interstate State Park. This park spans across two states, making its other home in Minnesota. The riverside is a patchwork of bluffs, including the gorge Dalles of the St. Croix, which were formed after the Ice Age, and can be seen from the vantage points of Summit Rock, River Bluff, or Pothole trails. In the side of the bluffs you’ll find the Old Man of the Dalles, which is a hauntingly beautiful formation that appears to be an old man, shifting out from the rock to gaze eternally onto the horizon.
This one will even offer you a gorgeous drive into it in your Milwaukee car rentals.
The Parnell Observation Tower
If you’ve done some research on things to do in Wisconsin, then you’ve likely heard of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The Parnell Observation Tower in the North Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest has its own 3.5-mile hike that will offer you a lovely afternoon daytrip. The tower itself is 60-feet high, and offers a spectacular view of 25 miles of the surrounding forest, hills, and farmland.
Holy Hill Basilica
Once you’ve visited the Parnell Observation Tower in the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, it’s time to get an experience of the Southern Unit. Drive your Milwaukee car rentals to Hubertus to take a hike up to the Holy Hill Basilica. At 192 feet and 178 steps to the top of the observation, you’ll see as far as 30 miles out. The history of the basilica is also amazing, having been declared a Shrine of Mary in 1903 and a minor basilica in 2006. Once you’ve finished enjoying the Holy Hill Basilica, take a hike on the Ice Age Trail for a second dose of natural vistas.
Devil’s Lake State Park
Being one of the more popular state parks, the Devil’s Lake State Park starts off with a gorgeous drive in your Milwaukee car rentals and finishes with vistas over the 500-foot quartzite bluffs. From either East Bluff or West Bluff trails you’ll get equally breathtaking views of the changing season. Don’t forget your camera for this unforgettable hiking trip!
Beat the fall rush. Reserve your Milwaukee car rentals from Mayfair today.
